In the racks

There were these metal racks just stacked at the scrap yard.  I like how they looked with a shallow DOF. Although I shot this with color film, I thought it looked better in B&W. Almost done with images from the metal scrap yard.

Camera: Mamiya 645 Super camera using Fuji Reala 100 color film converted to B&W

News: I have two photos in the Sacred Places group show, running through September 30, 2011 at the SPS Photography Gallery in Sammiches N’ Stuff, 515-A N. McDonough St., Decatur, GA 30030.  I am featured on the Mamiya Blog. I have 4 images in the TOYCAM: low-fi photography book.

The selective focus with shallow depth of field works wonderfully here, creating a nice abstract effect. You are right, the color version probably would have been too distracting, but the b & w version is perfect.

The sharp area of focus clues us in to the nature of the abstraction in the rest of the picture. It looks very good in BW.

I’m not sure why, but strangely this has a futuristic feel to it. I think it has to do with the bokeh and how it lines up and gives a sort of sense of motion.

really subtle! the blur makes us lose all sense of height!

Man, medium format Depth of field is insane. Nice shot! You’re making me want to dust off my old mamiya kit.
