A morning by the Chattahoochee River 3

I said that you were going to get some more 'in the forest'-type shots from our hike in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area on the outskirts of Atlanta. To continue yesterday's information about the pollution of the river by the Atlanta metro area, it's really a shame that the city seems content with paying so much in fines each year instead of finding ways to stop the pollution. It's apparently cheaper to pay the fines than the clean-up, but that is so short-sighted and shows little consideration for our downstream neighbors in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.

Again I used my tilt-shift with an aperture of around f/4. I must admit that I like using the sideways tilt effect in a portrait orientation, especially with tall subjects like these trees. In processing this, I added a slight cross-processing treatment which played off the green of the trees.

Next month, I am thinking of going to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (US) for a long weekend getaway and photo shoot (thanks, Deb, for the suggestion!). I am thinking of concentrating on the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge or Cape Hatteras National Seashore areas (around Manteo and Buxton). Does anyone have any specific recommendations on things that I must see with my camera there or a place to stay? I'm thinking of going for about 4 or 5 days.

'WHERE sunshine flecks the green,
Through towering woods my way
Goes winding all the day.

Scant are the flowers that bloom
Beneath the bosky screen
And cage of golden gloom.
Few are the birds that call,
Shrill-voiced and seldom seen.

Where silence masters all,
And light my footsteps fall,
The whispering runnels only
With blazing noon confer;
And comes no breeze to stir
The tangled thickets lonely.'
